Amazon has begun selling used Fords on its marketplace, a move previously adopted by another automotive giant, the South Korean Hyundai.

But while Hyundai began selling new cars through Amazon, Ford decided to allow its dealerships to list their used cars on the sales site.

Dealerships can maintain control over pricing and service, but customers will be able to browse, finance, and purchase vehicles through Amazon and then schedule pickup at the dealership.

Potential buyers will be able to browse vehicles available at participating Ford dealerships within a 120-kilometer radius, according to information from the website Motor 1.

The listings will include detailed prices, vehicle and service history, full specifications, and condition reports. Each car undergoes an inspection and may receive one of three types of certification: Gold, EV, and Blue.

Gold-certified vehicles, with up to six years of use and fewer than 128,748 kilometers, undergo a 172-point inspection and receive a limited Ford Blue Advantage warranty of 12 months or 19,312 kilometers.

The certification for electric vehicles (EV) includes a 127-point inspection but meets the age/mileage and warranty coverage requirements of the Gold certification.

Vehicles certified as Blue include Ford cars and models from other brands with up to 10 years of use and fewer than 240,000 km.

These vehicles undergo a 139-point inspection and come with a limited 90-day or 6,400-km warranty that covers the engine, transmission, battery, and electrical system.

Roadside assistance is also included, and all certified used vehicles sold by a Ford dealership on Amazon Autos come with a 14-day or 1,600-km money-back guarantee.

The service first launched for Ford dealerships in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas in the United States, but will expand to other markets soon.
